Signing Ceremony of the 2008 Ambassador’s Special Self-Help (SSH) program to local communities
On Monday, November 24, 2008 Ambassador Barry L. Wells held the annual signing ceremony for this year’s Ambassador’s Special Self-Help (SSH) program with local community representatives at his residence. The SSH is a grassroots assistance program that allows U.S. embassies to respond relatively quickly to local requests from small community-based development projects.

This year the program awarded a total of U.S. $40,000.00 to seven communities nationwide. Ambassador Wells during his remarks said, “The Ambassador’s Special Self Help Fund is one of the links between individual communities and the US Embassy, and we are always proud to be part of your community’s development”.
The signing ceremony demonstrated the USG’s support for Gambian communities in the areas of well construction, fencing, and procurement of wheel chairs for the disabled -all at the grassroots level. SSH is the highlight of our bilateral assistance to The Gambia. More photos from the event...
