"Dreams from my father" interests gambians
As part a program of activities designed to celebrate Black History Month, U.S. Embassy Banjul on Thursday March 3 organized a DVC on President Barack Obama’s autobiography: ‘Dreams from My Father’.
Guests keenly watch Mr. Austin speak
It brought together prominent Gambian politicians, university lecturers, journalists, opinion leaders, and a veteran Gambian diplomat and former Ambassador to DC Mr. Momar Taal. Mr. Sheldon Austin, a retired African-American Cultural Affairs Officer, moderated the video conference from his base in Paris, France. Mr. Austin made an in depth review of President Obama’s book, pulling out useful lessons, including those that inspired Mr. Obama on his journey to the U.S. presidency.
The video conference generated discussions on ‘Dreams from My Father’ and enlightened the guests about President Obama’s identity and his vision for the U.S. and the entire world. The event also drew connection between President Obama’s experience and Black History Month; thus it stimulated a question-and-answer session. The DVC was covered in several newspapers, as well as the national television station and several radio stations. (view photo)
