Sky Gallegos of the State department Speaker Program speaks on the u.S. presidential elections

Sky Gallegos talking to a cross section
of students and their lecturers
Ms Sky Gallegos, who recently served as the Deputy CEO for Intergovernmental Affairs for the Democratic National Convention Committee, delivered a series of public lectures on the U.S. Presidential Elections, bordering on the historical lessons of the past U.S. Presidential Elections, the U.S. electoral system, politics and democracy.

Sky’s informative lectures attracted enormous attention from some Gambian politicians from the two political divides. Members of the Gambian judiciary, opinion and religious leaders, lecturers, university and secondary school students, as well as key players in The Gambia’s political evolution, such as officials of the Independent Electoral Commission and civil society representatives also attended seminars.

All the seminars generated overwhelming interest and a plethora of questions about the US debate system, the Electoral Vote process, and the political party system. The foresightedness of the visit cannot be overemphasized.

To post’s astonishment, Sky’s lectures and other engagements enjoyed extensive coverage from the local media – both print and electronic – during the course of the visit.

Results:  It is an understatement to say that the impact of the visit has resonated across the length and breadth of the country, as it was evident the visit made headlines and saturated frequency of key radio stations, including the state radio. For 6 consecutive days, news reports on Sky’s lectures crowded the screen of the only TV station in the country. The visit saw four seminars reaching an audience of over 700 people; two TV one-to-one appearances and a radio interview with an independent radio station.
