Embassy Honors Martin Luther King

Capping the Embassy's Martin Luther King month, the event celebrating Martin Luther King's legacy featured guests from across Gambian society: government officials, civil society members, media members, artists, youth leaders, NGO officials, and members of the diplomatic corps. The event featured Melvin Williams singing "We Shall Overcome", remarks from the U.S. Ambassador to The Gambia Edward M. Alford, a video address from Rev. Jesse Jackson, an inspiring reading of "I Have a Dream" by John Njie, and the awarding of certificates to and recitation of poems by the two winners of the Embassy's First Annual Youth MLK Poetry/Essay Contest.
